926 lb. Mako Shark Caught Off New Jersey Coast

So how big do Mako Sharks get?

Well over 1,000 lbs. and I think the largest recorded was over 1,300 lbs.

Mako Sharks are huge!!

I lived in New Jersey for 14 years and caught many sharks, including quite a few Mako Sharks but not as big as this 926 pounder caught on a Charter boat. My largest Mako was 418 lbs. It was quite the fight...2 hours worth on 50 lb. test line.

Anyway here is a huge Mako weighing 962 lbs. It broke the fishing rod. It measured 12 feet long. You have to play it easy with Giants otherwise your tackle will fail.

Tackle wise, I would go with an Unlimited S-Glass rod with SiC ring boat rod guides, roller tip, Makuma Makaira 80 and 1500 M of 250 lb. braided PE fishing line.
