Best Brands of Braided Fishing Line
I read a few fishing forums and always see this question come up..."What are the best brands of braided fishing line?"
I am a custom rod builder, tackle store owner and previously a tuna and shark angler. I've used a lot of different brands of fishing line in my time and none of them failed. I've caught over 200 tuna and 300 sharks. I've used mostly 50 and 80 lb. braided fishing line but also 200 lb. for Bluefin Tuna.
The brands that I have bought and used are Berkley, Power Pro, KastKing, Hercules, Daiwa, Dorisea, Thornsline, Sufix, Reaction Tackle, Beyond Braid, Spectra and Proberos.
I currently sell most of these in my tackle store. They are all very good braided fishing line. Most brands are made in large factories in China. The quality is very good.
I do have some favorites though for some reason or another. Maybe the packaging. Anyway, I like Hercules, Proberos and Dorisea. They are excellent braids using high tech PE fiber. It's very strong and very smooth. Less friction especially with the higher braids like 12 and 16 strand braids.
Focus on the strands in the braid rather than the brand name. All brands are very good. The 8, 12 and 16 strand braids are much better than the 4 strand. If you are hunting big fish like Bluefin Tuna, Swordfish, Marlin and Sharks, choose the 12 or 16 strand braids. These will serve you well. Go heavier and avoid line failure.
For smaller fish like around 40 lbs. or less, you can use the 4 strand braided fishing line. It's strong and cheap.
Here's an excellent braided fishing line from Dorisea in 500 lb. test. It's a 16 strand braid. It doesn't get any better than this.
